FAQ

Can I embed files in my data file?
Yes.  You can insert files into the Inventory record or Tasks and it can even be a large video file.  You are not limited to 64,000 character files.
Users can also interchangeably create a reference to a file and keep those files in a folder outside the marinewright data file.  It's your choice.

Can I purchase a working copy of
marinewright™  already set up for my particular model when I take delivery of my new boat?
Yes, if we already have a template for your vessel it will be straightforward.   Contact us and we will work with you to simplify your setup time.

I purchased marinewright™ online.  What happens next?
When we receive notification of your payment we will  send an unlock code to the email address entered when placing your order.  Entering this unlock code will enable you to use marinewright™ beyond the 30 day trial. 

How many vessels can I manage with
marinewright™?
1 vessel.  The demo file contans a sample boat.  You will delete this vessel and create a new one in it's place.

I started my marinewright™ software and the opening view seems frozen. What do I do? 
The opening view has two layouts. The upper view can be closed out after you read it and acknowledge it.  If you don't want to see it at startup click the box in the upper right corner of that layout.  The lower layout is an alert layout for past due Tasks and low inventory levels. Click on the “Done” button in the lower right of the alerts layout. The program will start after these layouts are closed.

The layouts aren't completely opening on my screen.  What display settings should I be using?
1024 x 768 is the correct display setting.

How do I network my database? 
You need either a local area network,  peer to peer connection or a high speed internet connection to a hosted file.   Each network seat must have a copy of Filemaker 8.5 or 9.0.   Single users can work with the marinewright™ software alone. 

What is a hosted file and how does it benefit me?

wright™ provides a service to keep your file at a secure server where multiple users can access the same file. The file is backed up frequently and this provides added security for your data. This feature allows the owner, captain and boatyard to access and communicate, for instance through the Work Order system.  Add orders and monitor progress in an orderly and well documented manner. All features are operational to each connected user.

I scheduled a daily Task. Why was only a limited number entered into the schedule? 
This is by design. When scheduling Procedures you can add more events as often as you want. See the User Manual for details on the default number of events scheduled each time the "Populate" feature is selected. 

I cannot find an item I added to inventory. What happened to my record? 
Make certain you are looking at "ALL" Systems and Categories, then when it appears make certain those fields are set the way you want.  

Why can I enter so many addresses? 
Your main address is you home port. It is your default address and is used as your shipping address when you create Purchase Orders. If you are traveling you can enter appropriate information in the visiting port section and have orders shipped to that address. Bill to is self explanatory and is convenient for many professionally managed vessels. 

How do I keep track of locations I've created and those I need to add? 
Run print locations and either leave it on your screen or print a hard copy. It makes it easy to see what you've already entered. 

I want to assign a Work Order but no contacts appear for me to assign. Why don't the contacts I entered appear? 
Go to Contacts/Crew Information and click on status. Only active contacts appear in the drop down lists. 

I am creating a Purchase Order and I cannot find the manufacturer of my Chartplotter in the supplier list. Why doesn't it appear? 
Only Suppliers appear in the supplier drop down list. Change the contact category to supplier  or check the box "Order from this Contact"  and it will appear the next time you click on the field.

What is “Other Contacts” in Contacts? This is a place to enter all the crew on another vessel, or multiple employees for a company for which you don't wish to have a separate contact record. 

What are Total PO charges in Projects and Work Orders? When a Purchase Order is created you can assign it to a Work Order. The total value of the PO is assigned to that WO and since any number of WO's can be included in a Project, the Project view totals them for you. 

In Task Steps, do I have to fill in the "Items on Which This Task is Being Performed" information? No, it's for you reference or more powerfully, you will be prompted to update the log hours each time the Task is completed and an Equipment Log entry will be automatically created.  The log entries are displayed in both the Equipment Logs and in the Inventory detail for that equipment item.

What is the Issue Date Field for in Inventory record? This field can be used for different purposes. Use it to record the date equipment was added to the vessel. If the item is a chart or license with a date of record, enter that date.

What if I like the benefits of marinewright™ but don't have the time to enter all the detail myself?
Marinewright, Ltd. has developed a network of qualified installers and resellers who will provide this service for a fee.  Contact us and we will help you find what you need.

I'm selling my boat and the new owner wants to use my
marinewright™ data.  Can he use my copy?
Only one user can own a single licensed copy of marinewright™.  Contact us and we will advise you of your options.

I deleted my trial copy of marinewright in OS X and get the message that some files are locked when I try to empty Trash.  How do I empty Trash?
It's an OS X protection.  Go to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh475.html for instructions and you'll be able to remove the file.

I installed a copy of marinewright already.  Can I install a later version also? 
  Delete the original version before installing another if it's only demo versions you are dealing with.    If you are working with a licensed version and are upgrading to a later version, follow the directions on your screen to upgrade your file.  The installation process will take care of the rest.
